In the Chancellors recent speech, he announced further support for small businesses during ‘Lockdown 2.0’, in the form of a business rates grant.
As part of the support, he announced that local councils would be able to provide a business rates grant to support businesses ‘required to close by law’ under the national restrictions. This includes sectors like non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses.
This grant applied to business that were open as usual, providing services in-person to customers from their business premises, but which were then required by law to close due to national lockdown restrictions imposed by the government.
The grant doesn’t apply if you’ve chosen to close or doesn’t depend on providing direct in-person services from your premises.
What’s on offer if I have an eligible businesses that has a property with a rateable value of:
- £15,000 or under, you will receive a cash grant of £1,334 per 28-day qualifying restriction period.

Grants will be based on the rateable value of the property on the first full day of the national lockdown restrictions.

There are certain exclusions, so you should check your local councils’ site to ensure you qualify.
